The Automation Engineer will lead and coordinate the technical phases of automation development in conjunction with manufacturing and new product development initiatives. Define and implement manufacturing solutions that would enhance productivity and quality and ensure desired performance to support output targets. Would be resident expert helping to achieve high OEE for all automation in the operation.

Your tasks

  • The primary responsibility of the role is design, develop, build, implement, train and maintain integrated flexible manufacturing systems using conveyors, vibratory feeders, robots, vision systems, index stations, case erectors and Pad Printers. 
  • Perform necessary electrical and mechanical and programming functions to trouble shoot performance issues.
  • Resolve manufacturing problems, provide technical support, current best practices and advanced initiatives to all manufacturing plastics processing operations across regional and global operations.
  • Interface with vendors to obtain quotations, purchase components, purchase equipment and debug problems in support of process development.
  • Be the leader for all automation processes, provide direction and offer input to the team in related areas.
  • Independently plan and technically provide support on multiple projects utilizing project plans and schedules to track and communicate developments from prototype design through pilot production.
  • Coordinate or participate as technical resource for manufacturing transfer of new products, including manufacturing trials, or existing products.
  • Support projects associated with injection molding, extrusion and diverse assembly processes.
  • Train off-shift maintenance staff for the required skills to increase availability of equipment to meet OEE target of more than 85%.
  • Make technical presentations to executive management to convey project status and technical feasibility.
  • Develop local resources for projects and grow the department to meet future increases in scale and complexity of the operation.

Our expectations

  • BS in Engineering
  • Minimum of 7 years of previous experience in Automation  
  • Proven experience and expertise in designing, implementing and troubleshooting integrated automated solutions employing robotic, vision, material handling, Conveyors, PLC, HMI, Pick-Place-Pack, Inspection/Test, pad print, sonic weld equipment
  • Ability to design in 3 D
  • Demonstrated background in implementing automated solutions in high volume assembly and injection molding cells.
  • Hands on ability to perform electrical and mechanical functions to ensure flexible automation systems are ready to adapt to changing manufacturing demand
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Minitab, SolidWorks & Mold Simulation Analysis or equivalent systems
  • Good ability to communicate and present technical details verbally, visually and in writing
  • Ability to work effectively with all Production departments cross-functionally and acts as a leader by addressing production challenges with sense of urgency
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
  • Resourceful and able to creatively solve problems
