Job Summary:

This position will provide Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) support to the Troy and Findlay operations and will ensure that all practices are in compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.  This position will support the development and coordination of all training programs in support of EHS. 

Environmental Health and Safety Specialist - Findlay

Your Tasks

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promote safe work practices, facilitate appropriate ergonomic intervention methods, and reinforce the safety policies, guidelines and procedures as set by the Company
  • Conduct training designed to promote optimal HSE performance
  • Identify and champion opportunities to reduce HSE program costs
  • Prepare and submit all required reports and notifications to state regulatory agencies
  • Maintain effective communication and cooperative relationships with state regulatory groups
  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs to ensure a common and effective approach
  • Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible losses; evaluating the risk in such loss exposure; developing and implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss; and auditing the plan to ensure its effectiveness
    • Incorporate Lean Systems and 5-S wherever possible
  • Ensure that contractor personnel working on the property are in compliance with Freudenberg and OSHA safety requirements
  • Maintain and update as needed SOP’s (i.e. LOTO) for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day-to-day training
  • Responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the Site Security/Alarm systems as well as general oversight of all site security programs
  • Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected
    • Ensure internal periodic safety inspections occur at the Troy and Findlay locations
  • Assist with maintaining Site Preparedness and Emergency Plans and Procedures
  • Review accidents and incidents which occur and conduct field audits, reporting and managing the corrective actions
  • Guide the safety teams and ensure that periodic meetings occur at both locations
    • Minutes should be prepared and maintained for all safety team meetings
  • Ensure that all reporting (environmental, waste water, SARA, OSHA 300 Log, accident reports, etc.), is correctly completed and forwarded to appropriate agency (if applicable)
  • Ensure MSDS system is compliant and up-to-date at both locations
  • Monitor Phosphate Line in Troy facility to ensure compliance and proper PPE is being used
  • ISO14001 Management Representative
  • 50% Travel between the Findlay and Troy Location

Requirements:

  • Bachelors’ degree in Environmental Management / Safety or related field
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in an Environmental, Safety and Health role
  • Intermediate computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office including Word and Excel)
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
